Moontree Books
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jamie Frank-O’Connell, author of I Spy the Mighty Moon, Super Moon Surprise, I Am My Lightest Light, and Grandma's Garden, started her literary career at the tender age of seven. As a motivated second-grader, she worked each afternoon in the school library refiling returned books. The following year, as a seasoned third-grade artist, Jamie was thrilled to join the ranks of accomplished writers when the school newspaper published her haiku.
I dream of heaven
High above the earth and sea
A place to be free
Jamie pursued several careers before returning to her first love of writing stories. Between 1991 and 1997 she earned her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees, studying pre-law and counseling psychology. She returned to graduate school after completing her first Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology to become a Licensed School Counselor. Jamie has worked in clinics and schools as a professional counselor since 1997.
In 2001 Jamie’s life adventures took her from Colorado to central New York. Eventually, she moved to South Carolina near Charleston, where she currently resides with her husband, daughter, son, and two dogs. Mrs. Frank-O’Connell, as her students know her, enjoys the daily challenge of working as a Middle School Counselor. Her professional roles have provided a sense of purpose and connection with today’s youth. In spite of Mrs. Frank-O’Connell’s positive relationships with students, passion for counseling, and dedication to public education, the need to immerse herself in the creative endeavor of writing has remained ever-constant.
In 2012 Mrs. Frank-O’Connell began writing children’s stories and quickly found a niche she wanted to fill. Her personal and professional life-journey, along with a love of literature, fueled a passion for authoring books with therapeutic themes. Jamie specifically aims to reach children and families in non-traditional or transitioning situations. As a mom, Jamie writes to entertain and honor her children. As a counselor, she uses bibliotherapy techniques to teach curriculum standards and reach counseling goals. As a Children’s Yoga Instructor, Jamie uses books to anchor lessons- connecting brain, body, breath, and balance.
Jamie is passionate about creating peaceful communities by providing students access to emotional and physical health, academic achievement, and career success. Her ardor for improving the world through love and literature prompted the creation of her book company. In August 2016, with the support of her husband, John O’Connell, Jamie started a new endeavor making Moontree Books an official LLC. Her quest is to create a positive, peaceful, literary presence enlightening children as well as those who love and care for them.
